Chandrasekhar Rath Compilation
In the Odia literary world, Chandrasekhar Rath (1929-2018) is rare worshipper and a word architect. He was not only a story writer, but also a essyist, critic, poet and noveist also. He was a ultilingual writer, he had tremendous mastery on Sanskrit, Odia, Hindi, English and also Sambalpuri, a dilect of Odia.
Chandrasekhar Rath was born on 17th October, 1929, an auspicious day – Kumar Purnima – that year. In his childhood he was listening to the recitation of the Vedas, Ramayana, Bhagabata etc from his father who was an orthodox brahmin.
After graduating from the local college, he got his masters degree from Lucknow University. He joined as a english lecturer in Odisha Government education department. After working in various colleges and various position in education dept he retired from service in 1987.
Jantrarudha was his first novel. It is an unique book. After a long time, its english version was published in 2004 and he got the prestigious Cross Wordbook award. After Jantrarudha many novels, poems, short stories were published.
He got a number of honours and awards like Bisuba Puraskara (1972), Sahitya Academy award for Asurya Upanibesa (1980), Odisha Sahitya Academy award for his essay book Asruta Swara (1981), Sarala Puraskara for Samrat O Anyamane (1981), Kendra Sahitya Academy award for Sabutharu Dirgharati (1997), and he was felicitated with Sahitya Bharati award. He received Padmasree in 2018.
He is a bright genius, Odia and Odisha will remember him foerever.
