Istahar
Istahar, launched in 1974, occupies a special position among the Odia magazines published after 1950. The first issue of Istahar, published in 1974, was edited by Bhagirathi Sahu presented a selection of modern Odia poetry. The regular issues of the magazine started appearing in 1978 and were edited by Nityanand Satapathy. These have covered various aspects of Odia literature with an emphasis on both creative analytical pieces. Poetry, essay, criticism and book review were among its regular offerings.
The magazine now appears as a quarterly, although several combined issues have come out. Writers like Gopinath Mohanty, Sachidananda Rautray, Guru Prasad, Kishori Charana Das, Chandrasekhar Rath, Achyutanada Pati, Jagannath Prasad Das, Sitakanta Mahapatra, Brajanath Rath, Rabi Patnaik have been among its regular contributors. Newer writers with promise have also been encouraged on the page of Istahar.
In addition to the original writing and reviews on Odia literature, Istahar also carried articles on Indian and international literature. Literature related research papers were also featured in Istahar. Special issues have been brought out on well known writers like Bama Charan Mitra, Sachidananda Rautray, Kishori Charan Das, Guru Prasad Mohanty, Benudhar Raut, Biswajit Das.
More recently Istahar is being edited by a younger group whie Prof. Nityananda Satapathy plays an advisory role. It is hoped that the magazine will be able to maintain its revolutionary role in creating new writers, reviewers and essayists.

Most of the issues of Istahar were provided by Prof Nityananda Satapathy for digitization. Many other persons joined hands for finding the missing issues among whom were: Dr. Sanghamitra Misra, Dr. Sricharan Mohanty, Dr. Satrughna Pandav, Dr. Babaji Charan Patnaik, Dr. Kailash Chandra Dash, Dr. Asutos Parida, Smt. Priyambada Patra (Late Prof Sibaram Patra’s collection), and institution like Kedarnath Gabeshana Pratisthan.

Indexes of the available issues have been presented in which articles have been arranged both chronologically and authorwise. This will help in searching for a particular articles. Unfortunately, searching is not very accurate because of technical problems. Manual searching will be necessary to overcome this.
