Sambalpur Hiteishini

 

Sambalpur Hiteishini started in 1889 with the patronage of King Sudhal Deb of Bamanda who took a strong interest in the newspaper. Edited by Nilamani Bidyaratna, it carried news of the region – Bamanda and other princely states around Sambalpur – along with general news of the country and the world.

The style of its writings appeared to be superior to the other publications of the time and catered to the taste of learned people. In addition to the news it published literary discussions and critique, kavya and poetry, essays etc. Radhanath, Madhusudan Rao, Gangadhar Meher, Viswanath Kar, Fakir Mohan, Lala Rammohan Ray, Sacchidananda Deb, Jalandhar Deb were among its many prominent writers.
