Bigyana Prabha
From their early days of publication Odia periodicals carried writings on science for the general readers. This process continued through the 1960’s where literary magazines acted as the vehicles for science articles. Although a magazine – Bigyana Darpana – devoted to science matters only appeared in the 1880’s it could not continue for long.
Polpular science writings grew both in numbers and diversity during the 1940’s. This process was strengthened further with the establishment of Bigyan Prachar Samity in 1949. Yet it was not until 1973 that a magazine featuring only science appeared.
This magazine – ‘Bigyan Prabha’ – started publication in 1973 from cuttack.It carried material edited by the members of Bigyan Prachar Samity and was managed by Chhatrasathi. This collaboration between the editors group and the publisher continued till 1979 after which Chhatrasathi kept the magazine alive for over twenty years.
Some of the other major science magazines of this time were: Bigyanaloka, Bigyana Madhupa, Bigyana Taranga, Bigyana Diganta and a few others.
